Workshop on Role of Media on Dalits' Issues Organized

NNDSWO organized one day interaction workshop on "Role of Media on Dalits' Issues" in Kathmandu on May 19, 2008 in close coordination with ADJON, an organization of Dalits Journalists. The objective of the workshop was to sensitize the media on Dalits' inclusion and role of media persons on highlighting Dalits issues.
Speaking at the workshop, the President of NNDSWO Bhakta Bishwakarma, appealed to the media persons that reservation should be taken as rights not as pity. He also urged to the media persons that they should play a key role as social change agent; as they are the fourth organ of the state. He further stressed that the need of today is carrying out the programs hand in hand with other non Dalits organizations and the NNDSWO is always ready to do so for ensuring the Dalits rights. He also justified  on why Shiva Gauele, a non Dalit journalist was assigned to prepare the paper for the workshop that it is not due to lack of Dalits journalists, rather Dalits want to get shared the ideas, experiences and suggestions on the Dalits issues covered in the national print and electronic media. He further mentioned that reservation either we call it special rights or progressive reservation or affirmative action that are compulsory to be practiced in media and overall state mechanism.
