Startegic Approaches

To achieve the stated objectives, NNDSWO will adopt the following strategic approaches:

  1. Coordinated and Collaborative Approach:

The enormity of the problems and challenges faced by Dalits is severe. In order to make a real difference in society, all interventions need to be initiated in a coordinated and collaborative approach. Thus, NNDSWO will promote networks and alliances to create a common passion, synergy and solidarity among Dalits and Pro-Dalits which are essential for asserting rights and inclusion of Dalits. NNDSWO will adopt this approach from local to national level initiatives and interventions.

  1. Rights Based Approach:

Since its inception NNDSWO has been striving for human rights, social justice and dignity of the Dalit community, and is recognized as a real representative and advocacy organization of Dalit community in Nepal. Rights based Approach (RBA) is central to every initiatives and interventions. From its experience of more than 25 years it adopts rights based approach to empower the Dalit community to claim their rights, and address their multi-faceted problems.

  1. Holistic and Integrated Approach:

When interventions are planned and implemented for Dalit communities, it is not sufficient to provide, for example only health awareness or education. Because of the inter-relatedness of issues, interventions have to be integrated and this will likely need collaboration with other agencies. NNDSWO will make a conscious effort to promote a holistic and integrated approach in implementing various interventions that are based on an in-depth analysis of the real needs of the Dalit communities.

  1. Promote Strategic Partnership and Programmatic Approach:

To achieve its mission, NNDSWO needs to drive into programmatic and have strategic partnerships based on mutual respect, trust and strong commitment between partners and donors to bring about synergy impact. This approach will recognize NNDSWO as owner of the development process and contribute to its institutionalization. NNDSWO will approach donors, international organisations and government institutions to realise this.

  1. Defined Responsibility for Program Accountability:

The roles and responsibilities of the Executive Committee and staff are now clearly defined in the responsibility matrix (refer below) and the organization structure of NNDSWO has also been further fine-tuned. This will ensure every board and staff member understands their accountability for achieving the mission of the organisation.
